FAQ

Q. I have reasonably long eyelashes, but I can't find a mascara that gives me that "to die for" look. What do you suggest?

A. Why not try Australis Volume Boost Mascara. This Primer and Mascara combination provides an instant "stand out" lash effect for the fullest and blackest black lashes ever. Simply apply 1-2 licks of the white priming base coat before 1-3 coats of the black top coat for maximum results. For any hard to get lower lashes, try Australis Extender Lash Mascara in Black. There is no reason as to why you cannot use 2 different mascaras simultaneously to achieve your desired look.

Q. I love my foundation, but it is matte. I don't want the "matte" look. I have tried many foundations but keep coming back to my favourite. How can I still use my foundation and get that "sheen" on my face.

A. There are a couple of options when creating a radiant and luminous complexion. Firstly always remember to only apply foundation to freshly moisturized and primed skin -this ensures that the colour does not "grab" onto the skin making it look matte, dull and one dimensional. Secondly, cut back on the amount of powder you apply after foundation application. Simply apply Australis Loose or Pressed Powder to areas of oil flow (such as the t-zone) rather than all over the face. For a luminous sheen, try Australis Shimma Stick or Creme Colour For Cheeks And Lips over the top of your foundation application. These customized highlighters provide decadent sheen and instant multitasking radiance - simply apply wherever you want to glow!

Q. What is the rule with eyeshadow, should I match my outfit?

A. The easiest and most flattering eyeshadow colours are those that compliment your own natural tones and hues - this provides an instant and fuss free result. For instant glamour and for a more striking eye, why not try colours that contrast your natural tones and hues - this will provide you with a more sophisticated, stand-out effect. Whilst it is not necessary to match your eyeshadow colours to your outfit and accessories, try to at least to create a colour story. You would not leave the house with a skirt that does not match your top which does not match your shoes or handbag, so treat your make up similarly and create a consistent theme of co-ordinating colours. Try Australis Duo, Trio or Quad Eyeshadow compacts for limitless creative possibilities.

Q. How do I stop my lipstick from bleeding? I use a lipliner but it still happens.

A. Quite often the biggest culprit behind lipstick bleeding is lipbalm. If you apply Lipliner to freshly "balmed" lips, the liner has not base to grab onto, thus deeming its purpose ineffective. The best prepared lips for an anti-feathering and bleeding effect are primed with Australis Primer, then a small amount of foundation or even concealer is blended around the contour (not on the actual lips themselves, just where the skin meets the contour). Set with a very light dusting of Loose or Pressed Powder before lining the lips. As your Lipliner's function is to create a colour border to prevent the lipstick from travelling, always ensure that your lipstick application is slightly within the lip line border to prevent colour bleed.

Q. Bronzing powder seem to be a real trend. I love that healthy glow, but am not sure how to use bronzers. Should I use it over foundation or on its own?

A. A powder bronzer should always be applied over a foundation and powdered skin. This creates perfect colour harmony with no streaks, tide lines or areas of colour 'grab'. A powder bronzer applied directly to moisturized skin can often create a stripy and unnatural result. Try Australis Bronzing Powder over you favourite Australis foundation and Pressed or Loose Powder.

Q. There are so many Bronzersing powders on the market, I am confused. I don't know how to decide which one is right for me. What should I look for?

A. A powder bronzer provides an easy, instant effect that can also multitask as a neutral eyeshadow or blush. Obviously the shade you choose should be determined by your skin colour. Lighter skin colours should go with a lighter bronzer and darker colours with a darker. Always look for bronzing powders that provide a sheer radiant colour - this avoids any harsh stripes on the face and creates a naturally sunkissed effect. Try Australis Bronzing Powder compacts in Golden for fairer skins and Sunkissed for darker skins.

Q. I see you have primer in Australis. Is it really necessary to wear primer under your foundation?

A. Primer is a protective and hydrating base coat that sits in between your moisturizer and foundation application as a cushioning insulater. A primer prevents your foundation from being absorbed into the skin and changing colour therefore providing a long lasting, 'fresh all day' make up that requires less touch-ups and always looks 'just applied'.

Q. I just can't find a lipstick that stays on for most of the day. Can you help?

A. Preparation of the lip area is the key! Always prime the lip contour with a small amount of foundation or concealer, followed with a light dusting of loose powder. After lining the lips with Stayput Retractable Lip Liner, apply either Stayput Lipstick or Colourmax using a lipbrush. Folding a tissue in half, gently press the lips around the tissue which will gently blot and press the colour in. Repeat application of lipstick with a lipbrush. Avoid use of lipgloss over the top of lipstick as this will decrease its staying power.

Q. I want to have that "healthy glow", but whenever I try blush, I end up looking like a clown. What am I doing wrong?

A. Think 'flush' not 'blush'. Gone are the day's of 1980's stripes across the face. Always apply subtle colour to the apples of the cheeks using a blush brush. Simply smile to find the centre of the apple. Avoid using blush on the temples, nose or chin - it will only make your skin look irritated. Australis Blush provides a radiant powder formulation, whilst Australis Creme Colour For Cheeks And Lips provides a decadent cream formula.

Q. Is it true that when you wear bronzer, your face looks slimmer? If so, why not just use a dark foundation?

A. Bronzer applied correctly can create more contour and a more shapely face by picking up the face's bone structure and highlights. The aim is to create a 3 dimensional effect. Using a darker foundation will not only make the complexion appear muddy, but because it is applied evenly all over, it will not pick up any facial highlights therefore create a very flat one-dimensional effect. For best results always match your foundation to your actual skin colour and then use bronzer to alter skin tone and to create shape and shade.
